studioraine.art Prepared for Horus Cafe

Web audit. 4 September 2026.

Horus Cafe.Three venues. Four domains. One family, split five ways online.

Horus has been an East Village institution for two decades, with a third room in Hell's Kitchen. On the street it is one name. On the internet it is five names, four websites, two hour schedules that disagree, and a reservation flow that runs on email at a venue that closes at 4 am. This is everything we found, where we found it, and what we would build to fix it.

The short version

Ten things the owner needs to know.

Ranked by how much money they are costing, not how hard they are to fix. The first four are the ones that change revenue.

  1. Reservations run on an email address and a phone line.

horuscafe.com/reservations asks guests to email reservations@horusnyc.com or call (212) 777-9199. A Friday night group deciding at 10 pm between Horus and Kazuza books whichever one confirms first. Email does not confirm first. Cozy Cafe, three blocks away, already takes group and full-venue bookings through its site.

  2. The brand is fragmented into five names and Google treats them as five businesses.

Horus Cafe, Horus Café, Horus Kebab House, Horus Cafe & Kebab House and Horus Cafe on B all describe 93 Avenue B. The city's own Dining Out NYC paperwork for that address is filed under Horus Kebab House while the website says Horus Cafe. Every variant dilutes the review count, the map ranking and the search result.

  3. Four websites, none of them the front door.

horuscafe.com (Avenue B), horuscafeona.com (Avenue A), horustoonyc.com and horustoony.com (both Horus Too) each stand alone, with no link between the rooms. A guest who finds one never learns the other two exist. The family's fame, in sideways.nyc's words, comes from running all of them. The web hides that.

  4. Discounting is happening through third parties instead of the site.

A $39 bottomless brunch for two at Horus Cafe on A is sold on pulsd as an $80 value, and delivery runs through Uber Eats, Grubhub and Seamless. The Avenue B site does push its own orders.co channel with 10% cash back, which is the right instinct. It should be the only instinct.

  5. The Squarespace staging domain is indexed as a duplicate of the real site.

Google lists horuscafe.squarespace.com/dinner and horuscafe.squarespace.com/new-page-1 with the same content as horuscafe.com. Two copies of one page split ranking between them and let the wrong one win.

  6. Pages are published under their factory names.

On horuscafeona.com the contact page is titled "General 1" at /contact-6, the hours page is "General 2" at /hours/location, the home page sits at /new-page-1-1 and the menu at /menu-1. On horuscafe.com the gallery lives at /pageg and the about page at /new-page-1. Those titles are what Google prints in the result.

  7. The hours disagree depending on where you look.

Horus Cafe on A: its own site says breakfast from 9 am and dinner until 3 am, Foursquare says 11 am to 4 am, and a listing aggregator says 9 am to 3 am weekdays and 4 am weekends. Horus Too: one of its two sites says noon to 3:30 am, the other says 11 am to 4 am. A guest who shows up to a closed door leaves a one-star review.

  8. The menu is a page called "Menu" with no prices Google can read.

horuscafe.com/lunch is indexed with the title "Menu" and a category list (soup, salads, tacos and quesadillas, wraps, entrees, brunch). Aggregators are quoting a hookah price of $12.99 from an old document while Horus Too lists hookah at $35 to $65. The internet is pricing Avenue B at a third of the family's own rate card.

  9. The entertainment, which is the reason people come, is nowhere on the site as an event.

Belly dancers at 11 pm, DJ nights Friday and Saturday, Sunday brunch parties from noon to 5 pm, dancer Joudy with DJ Fedy Joe on TikTok. Reviewers describe it as the draw. Time Out called the room "more about the scene than the food." There is no events page, no calendar, no way to book a table for the show.

  10. The reputation is strong and unmanaged.

Yelp shows 265 reviews for Avenue B, 415 for Avenue A and 276 for Horus Too. Restaurant Guru aggregates 2,004 reviews at 3.9 for Avenue B. TripAdvisor ranks Avenue B 6,909th of 9,076 city restaurants on just 20 reviews. The praise is consistent (service, hummus, kebabs, the room). The complaints are consistent too (price, cold platters, an unchilled bottle). Nobody is answering either.

Hookah pricing, published
$35 standard, $40 premium, $60 Fire Hookah, $65 Birthday Hookah. Flavors named Tony Montana, Cairo Twist, Moroccan Kiss, Horus Too, Egyptian Pharaohs. Food $7 to $35.
Why this matters

The rate card lives in Midtown. The search results live on Avenue B.

Horus Too publishes real hookah prices. The East Village sites do not, so aggregators fill the gap with a 2010s menu quoting hookah "from $12.99." A guest who reads that, then gets a $35 check, writes the "overpriced" review that already appears on Yelp. Publishing the price is cheaper than absorbing the review.

Why this matters

reservations@horusnyc.com is the best domain the family owns.

It is already in the reservation flow and it is the only name that covers all three rooms. horusnyc.com is the natural home for one site with three venue pages, and every old domain should redirect to it.

What Google sees

The page inventory, as indexed.

These are the URLs and titles Google is holding for the family's sites on 4 September 2026. Red means the page is published under a Squarespace default and needs a real slug and title. Amber means the page exists but says less than it should.

SiteURLIndexed titleFinding

Fix in Squarespace today

Make the custom domain primary.

When a Squarespace site's built-in address is indexed with content, the custom domain is either not set as primary or was set after Google found the staging copy. Set horuscafe.com as primary, confirm the built-in domain redirects, and request removal of the two squarespace.com URLs in Search Console.

Fix in Squarespace today

Rename the seven default pages.

Title and slug together. "General 1" becomes "Contact Horus Cafe on A, East Village" at /contact. /pageg becomes /gallery. /new-page-1-1 gets deleted or merged into the home page. Add a 301 from every old slug.

Fix in the rebuild

One title pattern for every page.

"Horus Cafe on A. Hookah Lounge and Mediterranean Kitchen, East Village" is what a page title has to say to rank for the searches that fill tables. Cuisine, category, neighbourhood, on every page, in that order.

Bookings and revenue

The money leaves through the reservation flow.

Horus sells three things: a table for the show, a hookah session, and a room for a party. None of the three can be bought on the site. Each one currently routes through email, a phone line, or a third-party marketplace that keeps a cut.

Today

Tables for the show.

Belly dancers at 11 pm, DJ Friday and Saturday, and the site says "email us." Foursquare tips warn that weekends get crowded and to reserve. The demand is stated by the guests themselves and there is nothing to click.

Today

Hookah.

Forty-plus flavors are mentioned across listings. Not one is named on the East Village sites, and no price is published there. Horus Too names five signature mixes and prices four tiers. That page should exist for all three rooms.

Today

Parties and brunch.

Bottomless brunch is sold on pulsd at $39 for two. A "Birthday Hookah" exists at $65 in Midtown. Neither is bookable direct. Cozy Cafe, the neighbour, takes half-venue and full-venue bookings for up to 50 guests from its own reservations page.

What the flow should be.

Build

Reserve a table with a card on file.

Pick the room, the night, the party size, the time. Weekend show nights carry a per-person deposit that comes off the check. The guest gets a text confirmation. The floor gets a list. No-shows on a Saturday stop costing the room a table.

Build

Packages sold direct.

Birthday table with the Birthday Hookah, bottomless brunch for two, a private half-room for a group. Priced on the site at full rate, with the pulsd discount retired or reserved for weeknights. The 10% cash back already offered on orders.co is the model: reward the guest for coming direct.

Build

An events calendar that is also the booking page.

Every dancer night, DJ night and brunch party as a dated entry with a "reserve" button. It doubles as the content Instagram and TikTok already generate, and it gives Google an event to show in the map result.

Build

Ordering on the family's own domain.

orders.co already runs the Avenue B channel. Embed it under horusnyc.com for all three rooms, keep the cash back, and move the "10% back when you order direct" message above the Uber Eats and Grubhub links instead of beside them.

Reputation and social

The reviews are good. Nobody is holding them.

Almost a thousand Yelp reviews across the three rooms, thousands more aggregated, and a decade of press. The problem is not the sentiment. It is that the sentiment is scattered across five business names and no one is replying.

What guests praise

Service, hummus, kebabs, the room.

"Staff being incredibly welcoming and attentive without being overbearing." "Creamy hummus and juicy kebabs." "The atmosphere is electric, especially with the music and belly dancers." "Solid hookah, especially exotic mixes." These phrases recur across Yelp and the aggregators, and none of them appear on the sites.

What guests complain about

Price, cold plates, an unchilled bottle.

"Expensive and not up to par with street foods of Cairo." "The hookah was great, but the nachos were soggy, the platter was cold, and wine wasn't chilled." "Slightly overpriced." Noise level is a recurring category. Publishing the price and answering the review would neutralise most of this.

A lazy summer night is the perfect time to claim one of the outdoor tables at Horus, light up a hookah and admire the greenery of the nearby community garden through a haze of fruit-scented smoke. This campy Egyptian lounge is more about the scene than the food.Time Out New York, on Horus Cafe on A
Do

One Google Business Profile per room, one name each.

Horus Cafe on B, Horus Cafe on A, Horus Too. Same address format, same phone, same hours as the site, same website link, everywhere. Then claim and reconcile Yelp, Foursquare, TripAdvisor and BBB to the same three names.

Do

Answer every review, weekly.

Thank the praise in one line. For the cold-platter reviews, apologise, name the fix, invite them back. Google weights response rate. The "overpriced" review gets a reply that links the published hookah menu.

Do

Put the show on the site, not just on TikTok.

The dancer and the DJ are what the TikTok discover pages are full of. Embed the best of it on the events page, credit the performers, and link the reserve button under it.

The block

Who a guest is choosing between.

Yelp's East Village hookah list puts Horus beside Kazuza, Cozy Cafe, Sahara East, La Sultana, Aziza and EastSide Story. Two of them are already ahead online.

VenueWhereWhat they publish that Horus does not
Kazuza107 Avenue A, open to 4 amA single branded site, kazuzalounge.com. Listed by a Mediterranean events platform as a venue, so its DJ nights show up as events. Described as "super updated."
Cozy CafeEast Village, open to 2 am"69 flavors," "since 2003," "best-rated hookah lounge in Manhattan" in the page title. A reservations page that takes private parties, half-venue and full-venue bookings for up to 50, with 24-hour and same-day availability stated.
Sahara East, La Sultana, Aziza, EastSide StoryEast VillageShare the Yelp list. None has Horus's review volume or its three rooms. That is the advantage to press.

Horus has more rooms, more reviews and more history than any of them. It is losing on the one thing that is cheapest to fix: the page a guest lands on at 10 pm.

The plan

What Studio Raine would build, in order.

Three phases. The first costs nothing but an afternoon in Squarespace and stops the bleeding. The second is the rebuild. The third is the part that compounds.

Phase 1. This week. Inside the current Squarespace sites.

Stop the leaks.

  • Primary domain. Set horuscafe.com as primary in Squarespace so horuscafe.squarespace.com redirects. Request removal of the two indexed staging URLs in Search Console.
  • Rename the seven default pages with real titles and slugs, and add 301 redirects from /pageg, /new-page-1, /new-page-1-1, /contact-6, /menu-1 and /hours/location.
  • One set of hours per room, on the site, on Google, on Yelp, on Foursquare, on Instagram. Pick the true one and paste it everywhere.
  • Publish the hookah menu and prices on both East Village sites, using the Horus Too page as the template.
  • Retire horustoony.com with a redirect to horustoonyc.com.
  • Cross-link the rooms. A "Our other locations" strip in the footer of all three sites, today, so a guest learns there are three.
Phase 2. Weeks 2 to 5. The rebuild.

One site for the family, on horusnyc.com.

  • Three venue pages under one brand, each with its own address, hours, menu, hookah list, gallery and schema.org Restaurant markup, so Google finally sees one business with three locations instead of five businesses.
  • Live reservations with a card on file and a deposit on show nights, confirmed by text. Party packages and bottomless brunch sold at full price direct.
  • Events calendar that is the booking page: every dancer, DJ and brunch party as a dated entry with a reserve button and event markup for the map result.
  • Menus as real pages, not images or PDFs, with prices Google can read, so the aggregators stop quoting 2012.
  • Ordering direct on the family domain with the 10% cash back message above the marketplace links.
  • Redirects from horuscafe.com, horuscafeona.com, horustoonyc.com and horustoony.com, page for page, so nothing already ranking is lost.
  • Every asset in the family's name at launch. Domain, hosting, booking account, analytics. Nothing rented.
Phase 3. Ongoing. The part that compounds.

Reputation and reach, run weekly.

  • Review replies on Google and Yelp every week, all three rooms, one voice.
  • Listing hygiene: one name, one address format, one phone, one hours set, one website, across Google, Yelp, Foursquare, TripAdvisor, BBB, Grubhub and Uber Eats.
  • Content from the floor. The dancer and DJ clips that already exist on TikTok, posted to the events page and Instagram with the performers credited and a reserve link under every one.
  • The numbers, monthly. Reservations made on the site, deposits held, direct orders versus marketplace orders, review count and rating per room. Reported in one page, so the owner sees what the site is earning.

Next step

Phase 1 is free. Phase 2 is a conversation.

Everything in phase 1 can be done inside the Squarespace accounts this week, and we will walk through it on a call. The rebuild is scoped in writing, priced before anything is built, and shipped on a date, with every asset in the family's name.
